Brief Playing history: After leaving school he started playing as a midfielder for West Ham United. His game was pretty impressive in the first years, but in 1979 he moved to Birmingham City for which he played 4 years. In ’83 he signed with Aston Villa but here he stayed only 1 year and moved to the team where he was going to play the most during his career, Charlton Athletic. He played almost 6 years for Charlon in 2 periods separated by 3 years at Brighton & Home Albion. He ended his professional footballer career in 1993 at Charlton.
Brief Management history: In 1991 he started coaching Charlton Athletic while he was a player too. After he quit playing, he remained as the head coach for Charlton until 2006 and during this 15 year period when he coached Charlton, he managed to win two promotions in Premier League and he build a team that would remain there but in 2006 he left the club to join West Ham United where he’s doing a decent job until now. He hasn’t earned any major trophees as coach until today.
