Celtic vs Hibernian (2-0): Highlights

Celtic controlled the pressure on Rangers when they welcomed Hibernian this Sunday.

Celtic have managed to stay in the hunt for the SPL title even though they were comprehensively written off. Manager Gordon Strachan has rallied his troops and it seems to be paying off as the Hoops are four points clear of Rangers at the top of the league table although they have played two more games. There were 2 games in the SPL last night Celtic played Dundee Utd & Hibernian played Motherwell. Celtic were looking to put pressure on league leaders Rangers but failed to get past the defence of Dundee Utd in an exciting 0-0 draw. Motherwell were looking to put more distance between themselves and Dundee Utd in the hunt for 3rd place and the coveted UEFA Cup spot.

Well another set of scottish football games happened at the weekend and here are the results and highlights. It was the Scottish cup at the weekend and Celtic played Aberdeen whileRangers played Hibernian.

Celtic had to leave it till injury time to pull back a goal and finish with a draw and earn a replay at Celtic Park, The SPL Champions struggled to cope with Jimmy Calderwood’s Aberdeen side and were lucky to get out with a replay. Rangers on the other hand breezed past Hibernian with 10 men and Nacho Novo will miss out on the Cup final should Rangers beat Partick Thistle it could be an Old Firm final.

Well all the scottish teams played on wednesday and we have the highlights for each game here for you to watch, you will need windows media player to watch these. With Rangers still 4 points ahead of Celtic the title race may come down to the “Old Firm” games that are left unless one of the two drop points. Also the hunt for 3rd place is still ongoing between Motherwell, Dundee United & Hibs. While at the bottom of the table Gretna still look favourites to go down with Kilmarnock trailing them by 6 points.

Hibernian are slowly starting to climb back up the table under Mixu Paatelainen they now sit 5th in the table and also have a game in hand over Dundee United which is great for the Edinburgh side who will be hoping for a push for a place in Europe. Inverness were favourites among Gretna for relegation this season but under Craig Brewster they seem to have stablised a little.

Description: Easter Road stadium has been renovated in 2001. It’s an all-seater stadium with a capacity of 17,500 and it has four stands named after the compass directions. The North and South Stand were built in 1995 and recently, a scoreboard was installed in the South Stand. The West Stand was built in 2001 and it has a capacity of 6,500 seats and the East Stand is still in development. When the East Stand will be finished and look like the other stands the stadium’s capacity should be around 21,000.

Brief History: The stadium was built in 1893 in Leith Area from Edinburgh. With a capacity of 17,500 this is the 7th largest stadium in Scotland. During time, there were a lot of matches with attendance over 50,000 but nowadays all stadiums have less places and greater security. The stadium’s modifications begun in the 1990s and in 2001 it was almost completely renovated.

Brief Playing History: Born in Finland, he started his professional football career in 1985 at the finnish club FC Haka as a striker and in 1987, even though he was virtually unknown he was signed by Dundee United for £100,000. He played 5 years for Dundee and he became Dundee’s top scorer twice before leaving for Aberdeen in 1992. It 1994 he tried his footballer abilities in England when he moved at Bolton Wanderers. He also played in England for Wolves, and ’97 he returned in Scotland to play for Hibernian where he played for almost 5 years, with a short 1 year break when he played in France for Strasbourg. He ended his career in 2005 at St. Mirren after playing at 9 different clubs.

Brief Management history: In 2005 he began his manager career at Cowdenbeath, a team that was in the 3rd Scottish division back then. He took the team to promotion winning their first league title after 67 years. In 2006 he return to his native land to coach TPS. In December 2007 he was apponted as Hibernian’s coach.
