Craven Cottage

Fulham
Name: Craven Cottage
Nickname: Craven Cottage
When Built: 1896
Capacity: 26,600
Record Attendance: 49,335 – October 8, 1938 – Fulham vs Millwall

Address: Stevenage Road, London, SW6 6HH

Description: Craven Cottage is one of the oldest stadiums from England. It’s an all-seater stadium with four stands called: The Hammersmith End or Hammy in the northern side of the stadium. The stand from the southern part of the stadium is called the Putney End. The Riverside Stand was originally terracing that backed onto the tames and Johnny Haynes Stand, renamed in 2005 in honour of a legendary Fulham player.

Brief History: The original Cottage was built in 1780 by the sixth Baron Craven, but the stadium itself has been built in 1896 and since then Fulham plays here. The stadium’s capacity was almost 50,000 but after Hillsborough incident it had to be reduced to a bit over 25,000 all-seated. The stadium is the 4th smallest from the Premier League but there are several plans to increase the stadium’s capacity. In the next years the Hammersmith End will be modified and the stadium’s capacity would reach 33,000 seats. Since the fans are really connected with Craven Cottage history and it’s name, all plans to move to another stadium are on hold and they’ll remain here.

Roy Hodgson

Roy HodgsonName: Roy Hodgson
Age: 60
Nationality: English
Current Club: Fulham

Brief Playing history: His football player career isn’t too well known and he hasn’t been a great football player. He played a couple of times for Crystal Palace but he hasn’t made it to the first team there and then he continued to play at non-league teams until he decided to try his luck with coaching.

Brief Management history:  In 32 years coaching career we could say that Hodgson was a journeyman as he coached 15 teams. He started coaching in 1976 in Sweden at Halmstads BK and in Sweden he had his biggest successes probably. He managed to win Swedish League 5 times (twice with Halmstads and 3 times with Malmo). He has also spend a lot of time coaching teams from Switzerland and even Switzerland’s team. He managed to qualify the team to Euro ’96 but he left when he had the opportunity to coach Internationale. Fulham

FulhamFulham Football Club
Nicknames: The Cottagers, The Whites
Founded: 1879
Stadium: Craven Cottage
Capacity: 26,600
Owner: Mohamed Al-Fayed
Chairman: Mohamed Al-Fayed
Manager:  Roy Hodgson

Founded in 1879, Fulham is considered the oldest professional football team in London. They’ve spent a lot of time in English Premier League but they haven’t gained any major honours yet. In 1975, when they were in the second division from England, they managed to reach FA Cup finals which they’ve lost to West Ham with 2-0. In 2002 they have won Intertoto Cup and they’ve qualified to UEFA Cup.

The team is based in Fulham, London, and probably their biggest rivals are the local neighbours Chelsea and Tottenham, Arsenal. They play at their current home, Craven Cottage since 1896, and currently they’re expanding it’s capacity to 30,500 seats.

In the last years, Fulham got away from a really bad period, after being in 3rd football league from England between 1994 and ’97. Probably the one that made miracles at Fulham was billionaire Mohamed Al-Fayed who purchased the club in ’97.  They quickly gained promotion in football league Division 2, and in 1999 they reached football league 1. In 2001, they gained promotion to English premier League. Everyone thought the team had potential, but in their first premiership season they finished only 13th. Now, the team is struggling to avoid relegation.
