Brief Playing history: His footballer career wasn’t too great. He played as midfielder for teams in the lower Spanish leagues, and he had to retire at the age of 28 due to a nasty knee injury.

Brief Management history:  In 1993 he started his manager career at the small team Alcoyano where he played when he was younger and until 1998 he changed his team each year, coaching Barcelona B too. In 1998, he started coaching Rayo Vallecano and from his first season at the club, he managed to win promotion to Spanish Primera. He remained at the club 3 years, and in 2001 he moved to Betis. In the next 4 years, he coached Espanyol and Malaga and in 2005 he came to Sevilla where his coaching skills took the team to it’s biggest successes. In his first year he won the Uefa Cup and the Uefa Super Cup and in his second year here he won the Uefa Cup again, Copa del Rey and Sopercopa de Espana. In 2007, he joined Tottenham, after the season started.
