Brief Playing history: He started playing as forward for Scunthorpe United in 1968 but he made it to a big team in 1971 when he signed with Liverpool. He stayed here for 6 years and managed to play in 230 games scoring 68 goals for Liverpool and helping the team to win 3 times the Football Championship, 1 FA cup, 2 UEFA cup and 1 European Cup. In 1977 he left Liverpool and moved to Germany, where he played 3 years for Hamburger SV. Here, in 1979 he helped them win the German Bundesliga and in the same year he got probably the biggest award a player could win: World Soccer Player of the year. In 1980 he came back to England where he played for Southampton and Newcastle United to end his career in 1985 at Blacktown City Demons.

Brief Management history: In 1992 he was appointed as head coach for Newcastle United and in his first year he helped the team to win Football League First Division and gain promotion to premier league. A couple of years later, in 1996, his team finished 2nd in Premier League, but the next year, he decided to move to Fulham but in 1999 he got the chance to coach England at Euro 2000. After an unsuccessful championship with England he resigned and started coaching Manchester City leading the to Premier League again. From 2008, he was appointed as head coach for Newcastle United.
