Description: He started his football player career in his home country, Ghana, at a local club and in 1999 he played at the U-17 World Championship where he was spotted by several scouts. One year later, he signed with Bastia and started playing as a defender for the club. Here, all his abilities were improved a lot and in just 3 years he was one of the most wanted players from Ligue 1. He had offers from several clubs from France, but also from Liverpool and Everton but he choose to sign with Lyon. He got a defensive midfielder role and quickly gained his position in Lyon’s first team. In 2005, he was voted as Player of the Year in France and in the same year he moved to Chelsea for a £24 million fee. Here, he was one of the players that helped Chelsea win their title in 2006 and 1 year later he was voted as Chelsea Player of the Year. At international level, he played for Ghana 29 matches, and he made his debut for his international team in 2002.
