Brief Playing history: He started playing football at professional level as a strker in 1984 when he signed with Wigan Athletic. Even though he was playing as youth for Liverpool he couldn’t gain a place there and that’s why he decided to start his career at Wigan. Here, he played for 4 years, starting in 137 games and scoring 35 goals for them. In 1988 he moved to Bradford City where he played 10 years and where he decided to end his career in 1998. For Bradford he appeared in 269 games and he scored 56 goals.
Brief Management history: After ending his footballer career he remained at Bradford as head coach for the next two years where he made magic things and he managed to win promotion for Bradford in the Premier League for the first time in 77 years. In 2000 he moved to Sheffield Wednesday where he wanted to repeat the things done with Bradford and help Wednesday to gain promotion too, but he was sacked after low performances. In june 2001 he was appointed as Winan Athletic manager. The team was in English Second Division and from his first season he took the team to English Division One. In 2006, with his help, Wigan Athletic gained promotion in England’s Premier League and one year later, he signed with Derby County.
