Description: Riverside stadium was built in 1995 and at that time, it was the biggest football arena built in England after World War II. Currently, the stadium’s capacity is 35,100 all seated, but there are some plans to expand the stadium’s capacity to 42,000 in the future.

Brief History: The stadium is home for Middlesbrough FC from 1995 and the entire building process lasted only 32 weeks. The stadium’s name was chosen by Middlesbrough fans, after a vote in 1995. The other possible names were: Middlehaven Stadium, Erimus Stadium and Teesside Stadium. First game played here was also a record home attendance for Middlesbrough. There were almost 30,000 spectators at the first game agains Chelsea in 1995, a game won by Chelsea with 2-0. There were also a couple of international matches played on this stadium: in 1995, a U21 match between England and Brazil and in 2003, a Euro 2004 qualifier between England and Slovakia. When it was opened the name of the stadium was CellNet Riverside stadium due to a sponsorship from CellNet but that expired in 2001 and the stadium’s name remained Riverside Stadium until today.
