Brief Playing history: He made his debut as professional football player at Gillingham and he quickly became a first-team player for the team. He remained here for 6 years and in 1984 he signed with Norwich City. The team was relegated in 1985 and soon after he made the big step to Manchester United. Here, he helped the team to win three Premiership Title, three FA Cups, one Football League Cup and one European Cup Winners Cup. He left Manchester United in 1996 for Birmingham City and soon after he moved to Sheffield where he ended his career.
Brief Management history: In 1998 he signed with Sheffield as football-manager for the team and after he quit his football player career he left Sheffield to coach Huddersfield Town for one year. He coached Wigan for 6 weeks in 2001 and in the same year he signed with Birmingham. Birmingham City was a mid-table team in England’s Second Division and from his first year he managed to win promotion with them. He remained as Birmingham’s head coach until 2007, when he signed with Wigan Athletic.
