Description: Stadium of Light is a great stadium built in 1997. With a capacity of 49,000 all seated and it’s separated in four stands named after the compass directions. The West Stand was formerly known as the Vaux Stand, the North Stand’s old name was the Carling Stand, the East Stand was named before the Fosters Stand and the South Stand is also known as the Metro FM Stand. The West Stand is where the main entrance, changing rooms and tunnels are located.

Brief History: Since 1989 there were several plans to build a new stadium for Sunderland, and in 1994 the Tyne and Wear Development Corporation has approved the plans to built a new, 34,000 seater stadium. The stadium’s capacity rose to 40,000 a year later and in 1996 the stadium’s construction has begun. In 1997, when the stadium was almost ready, it had almost 42,000 seats and in 2000 the North End was extended and the stadium’s capacity reached 49,000 all-seater. Stadium of Light is one of the biggest stadiums from England and it’s also one of the most modern arenas.
