West Ham United Football Club
Nicknames: The Hammers, The Irons
Founded: 1895 as Thames Ironworks FC
Stadium: Boleyn Ground or Upton Park
Capacity: 35,303
Owner: Eggert Magnússon
Chairman: Bjolgolfur Gudmundsson
Manager: Alan Curbishley
The club was founded in 1895 as Thames Ironworks FC and in 1900 they were renamed as West Ham and moved at it’s current location. They are playing at Upton Park since 1904, and the stadium capacity remained the same until present. They were never out of top 2 leagues from England and they managed to win FA Cup 3 times, Uefa Cup Winners Cup once, War Cup once and recently, in 1999 they won Intertoto Cup.
Even though the best finish they ever reached was 3rd place in 1986, they have a lot of talented players that could always decide a game. They also have a negative record. They are the first team to break 40 points in Premier League that was still relegated. This happened in 2003 but they came back in premier league pretty fast.
West Ham was owned until 2006 by Terry Brown when the club was bought by Eggert Magnússon. The new owner sacked the old manager and employed Alan Curbishley.
Being based in London, their biggest rivals are the other London clubs, Tottenham Hotspurs, Arsenal and Chelsea, but probably their biggest rivalry is with Millwall, another local team that’s currently in English lower divisions.
